It probably won’t come as much of a surprise to hear that Virgin Media topped the table in a recent independent poll listing the top UK broadband providers by download speed.

Information gathered by ISP Review shows th average actual download speed rose from 6.7 Mbps in July to 7.1 Mbps for August across the group. With average overall broadband speeds for all the UK ISP’s growing from 4.2 Mbps in July to 4.3 Mbps in August.

Here’s the rankings for the top UK broadband providers, measured by their upload and download speeds for August 2009.

3. Sky Broadband – 3.400Mbps

9. Orange – 2.676Mbps
